CO2 laser treatment is the most effective laser for collagen stimulation, skin tightening, and helping to reverse years of sun damage. You’re probably wondering how it works. The laser traumatizes the skin and removes the outer layer, known as the epidermis. Next, it heats the underlying skin, known as the dermis. Doing this stimulates growth of new collagen fibers! When the epidermis begins to heal and regrow, the treated skin will appear tighter, clearer and smoother. Yay!
Since this treatment removes the outer layer of skin and heats up the under layer, it’s more invasive than other treatments we have discussed in previous blog posts. We get asked all of the time, “is it painful?” Well, it really depends on the client. We do everything possible at Back to 30 to ensure you are as comfortable as can be. We will say that you can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment, but we do apply an anesthetic prior to the procedure. We find this typically helps make any discomfort tolerable
When it comes to aftercare, it’s important that you follow the instructions we will give you after treatment. When you come in for treatment, we will go over what to expect before, during and after treatment in clear detail.
After treatment, you can expect a sensation that is similar to a sunburn. This sensation will most likely last for several hours. You will also begin to see dead skin from the treatment area start to peel. No worries, this is a natural exfoliation process and it will probably last for 7-10 days. You will want to plan accordingly for this downtime.
If you want help with certain skin problems such as age spots, fine lines, sun damage, wrinkles, discoloration, acne scars, or rough texture then you will find this laser treatment helpful. This treatment is ideal for anyone that wants younger looking skin without the long downtime associated with conventional skin resurfacing procedures.
This is a question we get asked a lot. The nice thing about this treatment is that generally you will see the difference you want after only one treatment. That’s right, after just one treatment your skin will gradually look softer, smoother and with less unwanted pigment. As time goes on after treatment, the fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage and uneven texture will begin to show improvement.
Your skin could take up to 3 weeks to heal from treatment. After your skin heals, you will notice that your skin is appearing to be slightly pink. During this time, you will see more improvements of skin texture and tone. However, full results can be seen 3-6 months after the initial treatment. This happens once the skin has completely healed.
The great thing about this laser is that improvements from a CO2 laser treatment can be seen for many years after treatment!
